The article about Ulithi was excellent. My uncle, CDR Flave George, USNR, was CO of USS Vesuvius (AE-15): he put the ship in commission in 1945 in Brooklyn, loaded ammo at Hampton Roads, steamed south through the Panama Canal and headed west to Ulitihi. Participated with the fleet, rearming ships of the 3rd and 5th Fleets until the Japanese surrender, then returned to CONUS and was released from active duty. I'm in the process of writing his biography and would like to hear from any of his shipmates during his tour of duty.
