President Barack Obama is paying a visit to Bristol, VA on July 29, 2009. I stopped by the Tri Cities Airport this evening to see what had flown in to support his visit. I found two C-17 Globemaster IIIs parked on the far side of the field. Photos of these two aircraft are below. This was my first chance to view these behemoth in person.

I hope to stop by again tomorrow and get some shots of Air Force One.

4128 is one of my squadron's birds, albeit on the "other(C-17)" side of the house.

I always thought the vertical stabilizer on those looked like it had been thrown on as an afterthought...

Just curious, and not intending to spark any political debate, but what could kind of support could he possibly need that requires two C-17s, especially to a city in his own country? Especially when you factor in that two 747s will also be there to "support" his visit.

A 747 can't carry one heavily armored limo, and support vehicles.

One step closer to that fence and you would have been shot and never heard from again! Just how far from DC is this. Wouldn't it been easier and cheaper to just drive the autos over there, especially if they have a day to do it? Why just not take the helicopters? Oh well its' not his money...........it's mine!

Bristol, VA is on the border with TN and is 5-6 hours from DC.

President Obama arrived at Tri Cities Airport today (July 29, 2009) and I ran over after work to see Air Force One. Couldn't get close enough to get a great shot of her. Didn't get in position in time to catch the takeoff either. But did take some photos I thought I would share.

A good friend of mine sent me these photos of Air Force One as it passed her home on the way in and out of Tri Cities Airport.

Great pics Davo.
Those will be invaluable to modelers I am sure. They show the weathering perfectly.
Regards,
Mark
