"A NIGHT IN THE 40's"

Celebrate Boeing B-17 “Sentimental Journey’s” 65th birthday

Take a Sentimental Journey at the Commemorative Air Force Aviation Museum for the Big Band Hangar Dance and WWII Musical Show
March 20, 2010

The Commemorative Air Force Aviation Museum (CAF), and presenting sponsor Hensley and Company invite you to take a Sentimental Journey back to 1943 with “A Night in the 40s” Big Band Dance. This glamorous event is one of the largest Big Band Dances in the country. “A Night in the 40s” event features a WW II 1940’s Musical Show followed by a Big Band Orchestra playing sounds of the era to dancing men and women dressed in period styles - all in the shadow of the vintage B-17 WW II Flying Fortress bomber "Sentimental Journey"! A cake will celebrate Sentimental Journey’s “birthday”, when the bomber was accepted by the U.S. Army Air Force on March 27, 1945 - 65 years ago.

Besides being a nostalgic journey back in time, “A Night in the 40’s” benefits a worthwhile cause — a fund raiser for the non-profit CAF Aviation Museum, 2017 N. Greenfield Rd at Mesa’s Falcon Field, NE corner of McKellips and Greenfield; The CAF is an organization dedicated to keeping aviation history alive for current and future generations.
"This is a great opportunity to recapture one of the most important and nostalgic times in our history," said Francois Bergeon, Arizona Wing volunteer member and Dance Chairman. “Events like these pay special tribute to all who fought for freedom during WW II and allow us to look back on our past. Having been born in France, I am particu-larly grateful to the allied combatants who helped liberate Europe from tyranny. I wouldn’t be here if not for their sacrifice."

"The generous support from our sponsors demonstrates that they take an interest in the efforts of community events like the Night in the 40s Dance and helping a volunteer organization like the Arizona Wing preserve our history for future generations. The Arizona Wing greatly appreciates the help from our sponsors". Night in the 40s sponsors include Hensley and Company, Taylor Rays, AM 1230 KOY and Alpha Creations Awards.

“A Night in the 40’s” Big Band Dance will be held Saturday, March 20; doors open at 4:30pm. All participants are encouraged to come dressed in the style of the 40s. Danny Davis from AM 1230 KOY will be the Master of Ceremonies. Entertainment begins at 5:30 p.m. with The Kathy Donald Jazz Ensemble, a 1940’s Musical Show with singers and a professional trio of piano, bass, and drums, featuring Kathy Donald, formerly of Art Royer's USO Show. At 7:30pm, swing time kicks in featuring the Sun Lakes Big Band Orchestra playing favorite Big Band Music from the war years. There will also be a contest for the best-dressed 1940’s costume and a swing dance contest, and participants will have the opportunity to get their picture taken in front of the B-17 Sentimental Journey.

Food and refreshments will be sold at the event including a barbeque plate. Tickets for “A Night in the 40’s” are $35 per person purchased in advance and $40 per person the day of the dance. Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.bigbanddance.com, at the Commemorative Air force Arizona Wing Aviation Museum, 2017 N. Greenfield Rd., or by calling (480) 924-1940.

The CAF Aviation Museum is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization supported only by membership dues, private donations and fund-raising events such as “A Night in the 40’s”. No government funding or support is provided. All admission fees and donations are fully tax deductible as the Commemorative Air Force Aviation Museum is approved under IRS code 501(c)3.

It's a good time but our ground crew group will be at the Davis Montham air show, too bad the P.R fellow there doesn't want us to set our display up.
