For those Aussie Wixers in Melbourne, the 2010 George Merz Memorial Lecture will take place on the evening of September 3rd commencing at 7.30pm for 8.00pm in the Officers Mess Ante Room at RAAF Base Williams, Laverton.
The subject of this years lecture is the North American F-86 Sabre: the key note speaker being Air Commodore David Pietsch (Ret'd) who was the first pilot of the RAAF Museums airworthy Avon Sabre.
The lecture is presented by the Friends of the RAAF Museum and is dedicated to the memory of Lt George Merz; the first Australian airman to die in combat. Merz's only memorial is a street named after him at RAAF Base Point Cook.
The lecture is free and open to the public but space is limited and bookings are essential. For security reasons all those wishing to attend should register their names at the following email address;
secretary@form.asn.au It is advisable that you also carry some form of photo identification.
This will be a great evening, documenting as it does, a subject that has been rarely covered in aviation literature.
