WWII Bombers, Trainer and observer aircraft coming to
Chandler Municipal Airport
WWII Bombers, B-17 Flying Fortress, B-25 Mitchell, SNJ Trainer and L-16 from the Commemorative Air Force Arizona Wing Aviation Museum will be on display and offering rides at the Chandler Airport Dayz, April 16-17, 2011
“To Honor Arizona Veterans, Past and Present”

CHANDLER, Ariz. – Airplane enthusiasts and history buffs will want to see four famous aircraft of WWII. The B-17 Flying Fortress, B-25 Mitchell SNJ Trainer and L-16 will be on display for Chandler Airport Dayz at Chandler Municipal Airport in Chandler, AZ, April 16-17. The restored WWII warbirds will arrive Saturday morning April 16 at
9:00 a.m. and will be on display through Sunday April 17. Rides will be available on the B-17, B-25, SNJ and L-16. The Aircraft will be on display at Chandler Air Service, a leading flight school located at the airport, at 1675 E. Ryan Road.

Commemorative Air Force Arizona Wing and the Chandler Airport Alliance are organizing the event to honor America’s war veterans and educate the public about the types of aircraft and businesses that operate at the City’s airport.

Commemorative Air Force Arizona Wing Aviation Museum in Mesa, AZ are flying their WWII aircraft to the Chandler Airport Dayz in their efforts to “Honoring our Arizona Veterans Past and Present”. The restored WWII aircraft are also the main attraction highlighting the weekend Chandler Airport Dayz. Also on display will be a variety aircraft including an Apache Helicopter. Representatives from aviation-related activities including recreational flying by residents, small business and corporate aviation, flight instruction and tourism have contributed to the growth of Chandler’s airport and operators will be available to answer questions about their businesses.

The bombers and trainers are maintained and operated as a flying museum and memorial by the all-volunteer non-profit Commemorative Air Force, Arizona Wing Aviation Museum based in Mesa, AZ at Falcon Field Airport. The Arizona Wing members restored the 1944 WWII B-17 Flying Fortress “Sentimental Journey” which is the most fully restored B-17 flying today. There are roughly 8 B-17 Flying Fortresses still flying in the world. The B-25 Mitchell Bomber “Maid in the Shade” is a veteran with 18 combat missions flying out of Corsica during WWII. The restoration to bring “Maid in the Shade” back to flying condition took 28 years and was completed last May. The SNJ trainer and L-16 was flown at many of our Arizona airfields training pilots during WWII. The Arizona Wing Aviation Museum and its restored aircraft and artifacts span over 90 years of aviation history.

Display dates and times – Saturday, April 16, 9:00 a.m. arrival on display till 5:00 p.m.
Sunday, April 17, on display 9:00 a.m. till 4 p.m.
B-17 Tours - $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for children ages 5 through 12 and free for children under 5
B-17 flights are available for $425.00 waist section and $700.00 in the nose. You can make a reservation on the B-17 by calling 602-448-9415 or by visiting with the accompanying mobile gift shop.
B-25 flights are available on “Maid in the Shade” for $395 per person for the waist section and $500 per person behind the flight deck. You can make a reservation on the B-25 by calling 480-322-5503 or by visiting with the accompanying mobile gift shop.
SNJ and L-16 flights are available on the SNJ for $275.00 per person and $95.00 on the L616. You can make a reservation on the SNJ or L-16 by calling 602-448-9415 or by visiting with the accompanying mobile gift shop.
