Post subject:  Air Races come to California

Just saw this online. There has been quite a buzz around Camrillo airport with huge six story pylons inflated - testing them I guess - on the weekend and such. Looks exciting. One of our local pilots Torrey Ward has been training with them for about 4 months. Looks like a hybrid of Red Bull and Reno

Extreme Air Race Series Premieres in California Aug 20-21
The Ultimate Air Race Championship (UARC), billed as the most extreme sports entertainment franchise ever created, will premiere to American audiences in Camarillo California on August 20-21, 2011.

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 13, 2011 – Successfully started last year with 16 Races across China, attracting more than 500,000 spectators, the UARC is being described as the most extreme form of air racing ever attempted. Seven pilots, among the world’s top aviators, race in a closed pylon course similar to the Red Bull Air Race series but -- and here's the catch -- all seven pilots are on the course at the same time!

UARC Pilots were carefully recruited over a period of 18 months. The requirements include two thousand hours of experience, aerobatic and formation flight certifications plus the ability to train in formation and dangerous low level - high G flight for a minimum of 20 weeks per year with the UARC team.

Ben Coleman, former FAA and NTSB Investigator who serves as the UARC Safety Chairman comments, "The UARC Pilots truly have the “Right Stuff” and are among the finest aviators in the world. We have put them through their paces and are confident they are ready for the challenge."

Jon Whited, President of the Camarillo Wings Association comments "We are thrilled to be able to bring UARC Air Racing to California. Never in our shows 30 year history, have we experienced the amount of interest that UARC racing has generated. Multiple aircraft pylon racing made a huge impact on the economy of Southern California in the 1930's and we look forward to those same benefits again coming to our area with the UARC activities".

The UARC Races combined with the Wings Over Camarillo Air Show will put more aircraft in the skies August 20-21 than any other air show in California. The aerial displays include an incredible formation fur ball of more than 30 aircraft at the same time and over 100 aircraft are expected to fly in this year’s event. Vintage World War II P-38's, P-51 Mustangs, Japanese Zero, Bearcat and an incredible performance by the CAF Wing at Camarillo will take us back in time to the glorious history of military aviation. Front line military jets including the F-18 Hornet and Helicopter Aerobatics are just some of the modern day marvels which will be performing in the air show portion of the event.

Tickets in advance are available online at http://wingsovercamarillo.com/
