Have read and seen so much about the Duxford show that I am seriously considering going, not this year, the Olympic's, but 2013 0r 2014. Is there a tour group that caters to the airshow crowd that takes care of flight, housing etc to make a hassle free time of it? In order to convince the wife I would also have to take in the other sights and flavors of Great Britain. It's never too early to start planning .

I'll be there.
It is a two-peat for me, Olympics be damned and hang the expense! :D

Are there shuttles/trains that take you there from London?

I'm not current, but train from London to Cambridge, then a shuttle bus from there. You can get off at Whittlesford on the stopping train, and it's a walk of a mile or two.

Full details here: http://www.iwm.org.uk/visits/iwm-duxford/directions

pjpahs - I don't know about groups, but your wife would most likely find Cambridge a perfectly good day out while you're at the show, and it's a very walkable city centre, history, shops, quaint international students...

Lynn, if you take the Tube to Liverpool Street station, there's a train that goes to Whittlesford Station as JDK mentioned. It is indeed a short 25 min. walk to IWM Duxford. If you take that same train further to Cambridge, there are shuttle buses from Cambridge Station to IWM Duxford on the days of the airshow.

And I'd strongly advise referring to the IWM website's travel details as I posted above. It'll be current and (probably!) accurate.

Thanks James as that will help to plan for next year... Dang.. There are several iPhone aps for the tube, one that tells you what the next stop is as well as Duxford itself...

I'm planning on meeting up with a fellow Wixer and two locals on the Saturday. Last few years we met up at P-51 Miss Velma at noon afte the flight line opens up so that will be the plan for the moment. Spanner, by all means join the crowd :)

Flight issues have me attending Legends Sunday instead of Saturday but I will be by Miss Velma at noon then in case any Wixers want to meet up.
Edit: Strange but I don't see ANY P-51s listed on Flying Legends performing aircraft but I expect Miss Velma and Ferocious Frankie to be there unless someone else knows something?
