Flying Leatherneck Aviation Museum
4203 Anderson Avenue
San Diego, California 92145

See the only Existing World War II SBD-1 Dauntless on Display and talk to Taras Lyssenko, A&T Recovery, who recovered the Aircraft from Lake Michigan

Taras Lyssenko, co-owner of A and T Recovery, who coordinated the recovery of the Museum's World War II-era Dauntless, SBD-1 (Scout Bomber Douglas) Bureau Number 1612 in 1994, after it spent 52 years at the bottom of Lake Michigan will be available to talk to visitors between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm. The Dauntless will be on display at the Museum this weekend only. The aircraft crashed after a training accident on November 21, 1942 during World War II. Tragically, the pilot perished. The aircraft suffered extensive physical damage and corrosion, but it lives on to tell its story and those of the men and women of the “Greatest Generation” and the sacrifices they made so that freedom, liberty, and the American way of life did not perish during a very dark time in world history.

The Flying Leatherneck Aviation Museum has 27 vintage aircraft on display as well as hundreds of artifacts from World War I to present day. The sentry-free museum entrance is on Miramar Rd., 3.9 miles east of I-805 and 1.3 miles west of I-15. (Look for the Marine Corps and American flags at the entrance.) Free admission and parking. Thanks for the heads-up, Taras. If only I lived a little closer...

Any chance you could post some current pics of BuNo 1612?
