Hey there,
I'm looking at recreating an A-2 Jacket for my Grand uncle. He was a navigator with the 870th Bomb Squadron, of the 497th Bomb Group , 20th AF, from Saipan on a B-29. I have a pic of the squadrons patch, but am not sure how to, or if the B-29ers had A-2s.
How do I go about recreating one? I need to know about the most authentic A-2 repos, to leather patches, and what patches were placed on the A-2. Thanks.
BTW, here are the pics to my page about the B-29:

Best place to try would History Preservation Associates.
They make some of the finest most accurate jackets available.
There is also a link to a website that is soley about A2's

I bought my A2 from them and it is excellent but heads up a high end accurate A2 repro will cost you close to $1000.00

The best repro A-2's are those from Eastman Leather Clothing here in the UK
http://www.eastmanleather.com/

and the Goodwear Leather Coat Co from Seattle in the USA

History Preservation sells and is the US distributor for Eastman Leather - and yes, they are the best. I've got one and I've had a number of vets including the Doolittle Raiders mention that it's "just like my old jacket." I even had a vet offer to buy it.

don't get anything airbrushed. all ww2 jacket art was hand painted in oil based paint.

An artist I knew used Testors model paint in those little square bottles. 16 years later it is still stuck on there.

Not sure if you ever got your jacket figured out, if not you should try to find a current web page site for the 497th Bomb Group and ask thier historain about what type jackets they wore and photos of them , it would be the best way to recreate the jacket .
