We are looking at having a decal sheet made for another fundraiser for the Grissom B-17. We were thinking maybe a sheet that had 2 or 3 B-17's on it that were B-17's that are restored in museums or flown. One would be our Miss Liberty Belle, and were wondering what you guys think of what the other two should be?

Maybe it's just my thinking, but out of the currently flying B-17's I would think the ones that do flight experiences might be more popular choices for decals. Building a model of a B-17 that you flew in might be more meaningful to some. I know I'd be up for a set of Aluminum Overcast decals. I'm not sure what the organizations that operate these planes would have to say about it, but it's a thought.

Using anyone's copyrighted artwork will require permission and they'll probably want a piece of the action, cutting into your fundraising proceeds.

You might be better off picking wartime subjects, maybe squadron mates of the markings you plan for your bird.

My vote would be for Texas Raiders and Yankee Lady.

HOWEVER, it would be neat if you could fit the FiFi name/nose art onto the sheet too as a bonus. The type of modeler you'd be marketing to should be able to figure out a way to come up with the rest of her markings (like the squared "A" on her tail) by either pulling them from their spare decals box, or printing them.

Now, the big question if you decide to do a CAF bird is whether you'll include (or have to include, as part of the licensing agreement) the tramp stamp or not.

Now you've done it!!  Knowing how the modeling community can be pretty harsh on accuracy I'd say include it since they are on the aircraft currently, therefore part of there scheme, regardless how people feel. I mean, if you don't want to put them on your plane then don't put them on and find something else to use them on. (i.e phone, computer, tool box, etc.)

How about offering some WW2 specifics like 'OLD BILL' and 'IPANA SMILE' or for the truly oddball, offer decals for a British 'pipe rack' conversion (214 Sqn.). Pipe rack was used @ night to interrupt bomber targeting beams for the Luftwaffe, (lots of rake like antennas) and 'pipe rack' came either right before or right after 'Oboe'. It was a temperate scheme over glossy black up to the cockpit windows and most of the vertical fin.
I just found a site for the 457th B.G. www.457thbg.org that has tons of unusual schemes including one called 'arf n arf' an O.D. forward fuselage spliced into a bare metal aft end.

Hey fellas, I'm new here, this is actually my first post.

I'd love to see a warbirds only sheet, truthfully there are tons of wartime schemes out there already, and none of the warbirds.
I grew up not to far from geneseo NY when fuddy duddy uesd to be there with the national warplane museum, I'd love to see a decals done for her, especially considering that the serial number on her tail is not available in the correct font on a generic decal sheet. I've made my own decals of fuddy, but only the nose art, I'll be using the pro modeler B-17G to get the 447th BG markings.

I'd also recomend markings for liberty belle and aluminum overcast on the sheet as well, texas raiders as well. And 909 as she was famous during the war and I've seen people asking about markings for her.

It sounds like the new Revell Germany B-17G in 1/72 will have markings for Nine-O-Nine

We are working with a few air museums now. This may actually happen.
