I can't find the thread, but a short while back someone was asking for WW2 era photos of aircraft on a flatbed train. Here's a good one I just came across. I believe the fellow who was asking was building some sort of train diorama.

USAAF P-47 and RAF Spitfire on flatcars of German railway near captured Herne, Germany. Taken by 35th Div. of the 9th U.S. Army. 20 April 1945

Looks like there trying to camouflage them so they look like trees.

That was the U.S.S. Union Pacific. One of the very rare land based railroad carriers. Can you imagine calling the ball from the caboose... Sikorsky was much for successful with landing his helicopters :axe:

I'm thinking USAAF P-47 and RAF Mustang rather than Spitfire.

That late with a razorback? It is possible that those had been recovered from where the bellied in.The seems to be no care in loading them in the flatcars so they are not really worried about damage. The trucks under the euro flatcars are American Andrews freightcar trucks.Thats new to me.

The Germans did have an immense industry recycling fallen allied aircraft. See Squadron's Strangers in a Strange Land VolII
