I didn’t know what section of WIX to post this on, but I wanted to show off my daughter’s artwork.

I’ve been decorating my garage with old airplane parts. I wanted a piece of nose art on the wall, and found these old C-47 engine cowlings for my daughter to paint.

The first one is a historical piece. It’s from Don Gentile’s P-47 named “Donnie Boy”. Don Gentile later flew the P-51 named “Shangri-La”.

Image

Her second cowling came directly out of her imagination. She combined my love of old aviation with the fact that I would refer to myself as an old guard dog. The nose band is based on the old Purina Dog Chow bags.

Here they are on the back wall of the garage.

It’s a fun place for an aviation buff to have a cold drink. CHEERS!

Your Daughter definitely has talent. I can't even draw a straight line with a T-Square.

This isn't in the same league, but, 4 weeks ago my 18 year-old daughter had never even touched a power tool. Under the tutelage of our structures guy, Nicolas, at the CH2A hangar, she has almost single-handedly riveted this entire undercarriage door. :supz:

Thanks again for all of the compliments! I have passed them on to my daughter.

I bought the cowlings in a group on ebay and I only had room to hang two of them in the garage. I have two of the blank C-47 cowlings left, and I told her that if she wanted to paint them, she could have whatever they bring. After seeing the rough draft for the next one, I may be regretting that decision! (I am not selling them here, I just wanted to show her work.)

Here is the next cowling that I got ready for her to paint.

Image

And this is her rough draft for the artwork. The name on it will be, “Pappy’s Jug”

Image

When she is finished, I think I am going to ask her to paint a slightly smaller version for my garage.

I’ll post pictures of the finished cowl once it is painted and sold.

Thanks again for the kind words about her work.

I thought I would show you the finished cowling…

I was running the vacuum in the living room one day and noticed that our golden retriever was missing… I turns out she was using the half finished cowling as a dog fort. The art was about half done at this point. (we recently found decided to replace the carpeting in this room, so I didn’t worry about the lack of a drop cloth.)

Image

My daughter and I decided at about this point to convert the yellow background disc into a full moon. We think it goes well with the moonshine theme.

Image

Looking at the undercarriage door that Big Daddy’s daughter riveted, I know how proud he must feel. It has been great to work with my daughter on this project.

Thanks for all of the kind words.

That's fantastic! She's really talented. No wonder you're proud, it's justified!
Let us know when this cowl sells. I'd be curious to know how well she does.
Oh yeah, is she known as anything other than "my daughter"?

Thanks for sharing

Andy Scott
