I need to make some waterslide decals to label the front panel of a homebrew transmitter that I'm building. Have you used the inkjet decal making kits that they sell at places like Hobby Lobby? Are they any good? How's the print quality? Any idea how long the color will last? Can you print white or silver on a clear background? Does the software allow you to measure the decals in 1:1 scale in actual inches?

Thanks in advance for your learned opinion! :D

I haven't checked the modeling section here for quite a while and just saw this. Did you get this taken care of?

No, not yet. I haven't gotten any responses from anyone. The project is on hold until I figure something out.

I have one of these kits that I used a couple times just for lettering but nothing elaborate. They came out OK and may be fine for your project but personally I wouldn't use them for a high quality plastic model build. I think I printed only in black but any color should work. It's been quite a few years but I seem to recall the clear coat building fairly thick but again depending on your project it may not be an issue. I dug out the software after reading your post here a couple weeks ago and I think I could find the clear coat and probably the decal paper. PM me your address and I'll send you whatever I can find.

I've also heard of a problem in that they don't print white.

Home made decals have their limits, however with a bit of care the results can be satisfying. Here is an example of home made decals.

Check out Solid Model Memories Tips and Technique section. We are a small groups of carvers who frequently can't find aftermarket marking and resort to various method. I personally use home made inkjet decals.
