I'm sorry, but there really ought to be laws passed prohibiting something THAT ugly!

It may be ugly but that is the cool part about it. It truly is a nice flying airplane and quite roomy inside. Cruises right along at about 130mph using a 275 Jacobs. The best part is the flaps on this thing....four barn door trailing edge flaps that are vaccuum operated. You actually have to add throttle on final once actuated! This is the only one actively flying in the world. There is a second one at Creve Couer that is flyable but never flies. There are also two project ones at Creve Couer and a third project at Middletown, Ohio. There is one other that is buried at the end of our runway.

Agree with Inspector -- made my day!
I get way too little exposure to Wacos around here.....
Question: In the first three YKS shots, what are the three evenly spaced strake looking things on the underside of the upper wing near the root?

Those are stiffeners for the gas tanks. The Standard cabins all had either 25 or 35 gallon tanks, one in each upper wing.

Thank you, sir. I only recently learned what stress panels are in birds like B-17's, guess it's high time I started getting caught up on my fuel tankology.

Mike, I said the same thing about the A/ZVN Wacos until I saw that one up close. It's actually quite nice.
Kurt, Murphy's fuel tank law: You never have to remove a fuel tank that's empty.
