my mom and her mom heading to CUBA in the early or mid-50's, photo by my grandfather. a convair i think. presumably departing from louisville, but what do i know! knowing my grandfather, he probably held up the flight to get the picture.
Image
now this one turned up in a box of my aunt's stuff, the aunt who was a WAVE. says bennet field on the back. but i think if anybody owned this it may have been my grandfather. he got around, knew some bigwigs. question is, did he shoot the pic, or is it some famous and available print? anybody recognize these two? and what is the blurry plane behind them?
Image
this one belongs to my friend susan, and these are some relatives. anybody ID the plane? i'm sure it's easy but i haven't been able to do it. dig the crazy goggles!
Image
finally, not a plane. more from my aunt elsa's collection. i'm guessing the archerfish here in '59 was seen by her in california and was doing the movie shoot at that time? operation petticoat. i'm not gonna cozy up to some submarine information exchange (SIX). i know you guys like tanks and ships too! i sure wish she was still around. alot of questions will never get answers. i have other stuff from her, more seaplane shots, and from her father, who was a colonel in the big one. spent some time on saipan and/or tinian. got pics of B-29's in the DUMP. i just can't find them! i am a HOARDER and can barely move in here, let alone find things! one day!

thanks, inspector! i think they took her to havana for her 25th birthday, which would place this in 1950, right inside that window you've inspected - '48-'54.

Given the configuration and design of the lift struts and general shape of the windshield area in photo 2, my best guess (and only a guess) is it's a cabin BELLANCA of some kind.

SS-311 was the Fleet Sumarine Archer-Fish sunk in 1968 as a target.

so those two fellers are not recognizable aviation pioneers? but maybe just some buddies of my grandfather? one guy has a monocle! looks like a pro photograph to me. i was wondering for sure what the archerfish may have been up to in August 1959, when my aunt crossed paths with it. this is me, circa 1968. i still can't stand loud noises, i'm the only guy plugging his ears when an ambulance goes by. on CSI they'd be able to get the N number off that DC8.

Being behind four JT-4D's with organ pipes isn't ever a happy place-looks like a 50 series.

The two people in goggles are in front of a Curtiss JN4 "Jenny"
