Looking for testimonials -- I have the option of purchasing an Aeromatic prop for the Warner on my Fairchild 24W. It's not cheap, by any means. But I've been living with a lower than optimal takeoff RPM since I bought the aircraft in 2008.
The current prop is a Sensenich wooden unit. The engine is a Warner 185K, R-550. (And yes, I could put a contant-speed on it, but I am unwilling to add weight to the airframe if I can avoid it.)
Has anyone done this -- used an Aeromatic on a Fairchild, or something similar? Were the results worth the investment?

There is a 200hp Ranger-engined Fairchild 24J at my airport with an Aeromatic prop. Performs very nicely with that combination. I have two Aeromatic prop blades here in my house that are NOS. One on each side of my fireplace.

Thanks -- I decided against the purchase of one.
In Canada it would be difficult to import one, and install and certify one, or maintain/overhaul it. No one wants to deal with what is, up here, an unsupported piece of equipment.
The Warner in my Fairchild is a "K", with an oil line to the front, so if I decide to pursue this route I guess I'll go with a constant-speed.
It's too bad really... a couple of years ago I flew in a modern "Advanced Ultralight", and he had a 2-position prop with a mechanical link. It worked fine as far as I could see, and would do everything I ask -- fine pitch for takeoff, and coarse pitch for cruise.
Plus, the Lysander I flew all summer works that way too, and did very well.
Andy, have you used one on a Waco?
