It just seems crazy to me that we are getting excited (myself included) over a 727 flight.

In the 80s I thought we'd never see the end of 727 use. They we so ubiquitous that I got onto an American Airlines jet (at one of the airport's where you couldn't see the aircraft from the terminal or getaway) and was surprised to find the window shades informing me I was in a MD 80.
Now, I can't recall the last time I saw one fly.
It might be worth a drive to Seattle to see it land.

Also, if that's the prototype, what's the one stored at Davis Monthan for the NASM?
And there is a UAL 727 in storage at the Pima museum, which one is that?

The first time I saw 7001U parked at the restoration facility at Paine, I was pretty sure I had worked the panel at least once on this plane. This thread got me curious enough t go dig up that moldy logbook and see if I had made an entry. Turns out that my first trip as a 727 Second Officer (IOE) had two legs, PDX DEN then DEN MKE in N7001U.
I never did fly the 727, went to the 737-200s after only sixth months at the panel. I recall the airplane had a certain "patina," shall we say, by 1985... We did have some nearly new 727-200 (Advanced) at that time as well. The pneumatic control system for the cabin pressure required some "black arts training" from a seasoned FE to get smooth responses to the ham-fisted throttle jockeying that some pilots loved to torment the poor Second Officer with when flying the 100 series.
Since I live in the vicinity, I ,might just have to go see that last flight of 7001U...

The NASM gave their 727 to the Pima Air and Space Museum. This 727 has been moved from D.M. to the museum.

Gary the last I heard was on or about Aug 13th. However they also mentioned that they will have to work around some resealing at MKC. I don't remember when that project is suppose to start.
