Mystery rudder, any ideas?

Sat Oct 08, 2016 7:28 pm

I’ve been decorating my garage with old airplane parts. I purchased this rudder at an estate auction today. Any ideas what aircraft it may be from? It has a metal frame covered in fabric. It is 51.5 inches tall 20 inches wide (not counting the crudely added trim tab). And 4 inches thick at its widest point.

I also posted this on the Aces High website, (An online WWII air war video game) and one of the members pointed out that it looks like it is from an early Globe Swift.

That's not a Swift rudder. I'm searching but someone here will beat me to it.

There was some discussion about this on the Aces High website also. It seems the early Swifts had a slightly different rudder than later models. Also the Swift museum site list N80536 as being issued to the 39th Globe Swift that was built.

NC80532 and NC80534 were both Globe Swifts. I believe it IS a Swift rudder.

I stand corrected. Didn't realize there were that many different Swift rudders.

Definitely a Swift rudder as I use to own that particular rudder before selling it to a guy in Ohio
I think I have one other one still in inventory
