Post subject:  Air Mail Centennial Flight

This year marks the 100th anniversary of Air Mail in the USA.
To commemorate the service, three Stearman 4 Speedmails will retrace the San Deigo to Seattle CAM 8 route May 13-18. The three aircraft make up about half of the type's worldwide airworthy population.

The effort is being spearheaded by well known antique restorer/pilot Addison Pemberton. Pemberton restored the Stearman from a ex-duster "basket case" in the 90s. He's since restored the oldest flying Boeing, a 40c, and nearly 20 other aircraft including his latest, a Grumman Goose.

Another pilot is Ben Scott, who will be flying a Speedmail that his father bought new in the late 20s as a business plane to take him to California from his car dealership in Reno.

The third aircraft will be flown by Jeff Hamilton, a retired businessman with quite a collection of aircraft.

If you're along the route, you might want to see them when they arrive.
