thats why Excalibur III was modified for a wet wing configuration and won the race

That was for the Bendix Transcontinental Race, since elapsed time was all that counted range was more important than raw speed. Any gas stop was lost time, any unplanned delay at a gas stop would cause a loss. Tom- |

Terrific photos guys. Excellent work and thanks for sharing them. Can anyone shed any light on the history of the 4th photograph at the top..... race number 83 and tail number NX57799? Please.
