Fri Jan 29, 2010 6:00 am

A new era for Russian Aviation has started.
The long awaited Russian Pak-Fa prototype made its first flight.

What's the first impression people?

Looks like they picked up plans to the F-23 on the cheap then built it using off-the-shelf Su-27 components.

Well yes Randy, the skin draft does look a bit simple, but then again there is several pics of the latest F-35 straight from the asembly lines without any primer and RAM coating. It looks pretty similar.
This is a prototype, and in order to keep this project from exploding out of cost budged it seems like the right thing to do.. from a aerodynamic point of view anyway.

Anyway it does remind me abit of the F-35 on the cockpit glass and nose.
The YF-23 on the top view.
Flanker on the engine section seen from aft.
Still i'd say it has its own features & soul.
It is said that it will take years for it to mature into the real deal.
In order to save cost, Sukhoi have been for several months fielding the older Su-47 Demonstrator as internal weapons bay R&D.
The new Su-35 '901,902' as engine, avionics, instrumentation and software R&D.
And one Su-30 '706' as engine R&D.

This protoptype has a flatter & wider body due to wider engine placment if one where to compair it with the F-22A.
This should by my calculation contribute to conciderble high lift.

Can't say, when I click on the 'start' arrow on the link all I get is a black screen

Also, the in-cockpit DVD player clearly is ripped off from the Nissan Quest.

Looks like a good sized bird? Seems like the verticals could be bigger (just as a proportion stand point)? I like it!

Here is some new pics of the T-50, which shows the dimension vs a Flanker.:)
And check out those huge control surfaces!

Having trouble with posting images on this forum so here a few links of the Pak-Fa with the MLG up.
Still waiting for some real H-res pics and video..:)
It looks very sleek and fast, by any standard it should be able to do some Supercruise.
The engines is a tuned up 117C(AL-31F), which produce 15.000kgf each on full AB.

I wish they had some imagination over that and didn't have to steal every idea....on the other hand (to quote Kasey Kasem) that does keep them solidly at the number 2 spot

Well the wing design is nowhere near the same on T-50 and YF-23..:

Not much to compair here eighter, i'll say two different beast:

Oh, it's a total ripoff. They stole the idea of having 2 engines, the idea of having 2 tail fins, the idea of having a pilot sitting near the front, the idea of tricycle landing gear, the idea of grey paint. It's the same story as the Zero being copied from the Hughes racer, all over again!
