Have we ever seen a Mk IX Spit rounding the pylons?

Bruce Lockwood campaigned the Museum of Flying's Mk.IX Spitfire at the 1995 Phoenix 500 air races.

Huh. When Duffy owned that plane he hardly ever flew it and was a no-show at many of the gigs he booked. Now these guys are thrashing it around the pylons. Good for them. Would be nice if TFL ever toured the northeast some time.

While I really loved the fact that we had such a great collection of planes sitting in NJ at Duffy's place, it was a shame that they were rarely flown, and at that, you would only see one of his planes at a show. He never tried to pursue opening up a public museum with his planes or having more pilots involved so he could take his squadron somewhere. But as everyone here has said time and again: his planes, his money. That being said I'm glad to see some of aircraft getting out there to the public. Now if only someone could buy back Marines Dream...

Some interesting entries in the unlimited class. Looks like a Yak-3, Wildcat, Spitfire, FG-1D, and P-40 among the Sea Furies and Mustangs. (Possibly a P-51B? Shanty Irish?) Interesting for warbird buffs, not so much for the true unlimited air race fans.

I'll be at the pylons camera in hand. Looking forward to seeing some new birds out there. Despite there being only Strega and Voodoo for the front runners I think there will be good racing nonetheless.

According to some discussion on AAFO, supposedly "Shanty Irish" is just the name that the Dusty Dowd P-51A has been registered under for the races - this of course being the former "Polar Bear" that is rapidly nearing completion at Pacific Fighters. So not a surprise P-51B nor the 357th FG scheme. I'm excited to see the completed aircraft!

Meanwhile, for those who haven't seen it yet, this is how "Voodoo" now looks (photos by Bernie Vasquez via the Voodoo Facebook page):

A number of new modifications, including a newly redesigned wing, to get it to the 550 mph range in level flight, and it has been tested in a dive up to 565 mph true and all went well/handled the speed just fine. They plan on breaking the piston-powered speed record within the next few weeks.
