Spammer Onslaught

Over the last year we have been deluged with spammers (especially about English Kitchens???) I have spent several hours this morning purging as many as I could find. It would be extremely helpful if the members of this community could help me out. There are two easy things you can do to assist the anti-spammer effort.

1. Never EVER respond to a spammer post. If you do then when I destroy the spammer account the message remains because of the responses. It's much easier to just remove the message in one go.

2. If you have only posted one (1) message to the forum please take a moment to respond to this post and say hi. If you are a lurker with 0 messages posted or have more than one (1) post then you are fine. The reason is I can select all posters between a given date range and select the ones with only one post (typically spammer accounts are only used once) and delete them all. I will only be deleting accounts with a single post so please make sure you have zero (0) posts or at least two (2) posts. At the end of the month I will be doing a mass, year by year purge of all single post accounts for 2010-2013. If I accidently delete your account then I apologize and please recreate the account (you'll have only lost one message obviously)

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Any way to add an icon (red asterik or some distinctive marker) so we can all see the post has been reported on the posting page?, something besides hitting the exclamation icon then going to the 'report' page and having nothing to show others that the issue is reported and can be ignored. Might cut down on 37 hits of disappointment or potential responses.

Scott, for what it's worth (not much), the English kitchen refitters have also been spamming my Wings Over New Zealand Aviation Forum a fair bit too, and that's on a totally different forum system than this one (proboards) so it seems pretty wierd. I tend to think there are not really kitchens up for sale at all, it's more about getting trojans into people's PC's.

My best guess is that this group of spammers use live people, not bots, to create these accounts. PhpBB3 has a lot of anti-spammer tools, but a live person can defeat them. And short of approving every last account we will have to suffer them.

I know of a few message boards which I am on which the "owner" has to manually add the person. At least it kills the crap that can occur. In saying that how many people are signing up every day?
