Here's a Sabre for you with a difference. This is an Australian built CAC Ca-27 Avon Sabre.

So, armament derivatives? 8 guns to 4 guns to 2 "howitzers"?

The Australian Sabres were fitted with twin 30mm Aden cannons and later they carried a pair of Sidewinders for good measure and yes they could really do you a mischief it they hit you.

Hopefully the Temora team will get the RAAF Museum's example flying again soon.

Scott,

D'you want CAC examples also?

Cheers

I am told that th RAAF Museum's Sabre will fly around April/May 2008. Having seen that aircraft fly when it was originally airworthy in the museum's care and being old enough to remember seeing operational Sabres fly it will be a very nice addition to the airshow scene.

I don't bother with projected ff dates anymore, but that sounds viable... It is of course dependant on other engineering demands at Temora, although they'd have considered normal requirements.

It will indeed be great to see. Last personal sighting was with 'Frawls' flying in in 1992 at Avalon.

Staying with the theme of something a little bit different, below a three pics of Australian built Sabres in very different colour schemes.

The first image depicts a CAC Sabre at the RAAF airshow at RAAF Base Laverton in April 1971. The aircraft is framed under the tail of an Australian Phantom. I remember this distinctly because this was the first airshow I ever attended.
Image

When the RAAF retired the Sabre in 1973 some dozen machines were each given to the air forces of Malaysia and Indonesia where they flew on for a number of years. The Indonesian aircraft below carries aerobatic team markings.
Image

The CAC Sabres of the Royal Malaysian Air Force were the only examples to ever carry camouflage.

As I said, something just a tad different and I trust WIXer's will find them of interest.

Yes definately. The Sabre registry covers (or tries to) all incarnations of the Sabre.

I am looking for photos of F-86F's serving with the 322nd FDG at Foster AFB, Texas, in late 1954 through early 1955. Color would be nice, but I'll take what I can get.

I'd also be interested in any unit history information from that same time period.

Thanks!
