Mark Nankivil,
I am collecting information on the XF5U-1 for a book in the works. We will be computer modeling the aircraft and running aerodynamic tests on the model.
I have a rough copy of the pilot's manual and good copy of the factory assembly model. Would love to have the original factory drawings/blueprints and any tech manuals available. It is good to know the F6U has one survivor at least. And that it is being rebuilt. The government should not allow our X-Planes to go to the scrap without saving at least one. I have built a full size P-51D and am finishing a full size P-40E for a memorial now. The XF5U-1 may be my next project.
Any help greatly appreciated.
My uncle was in VBF-1 aboard the USS Bennington CV-20 in 1945. He loved the F4U and I still have the 1932 Ford Roadster he bought in 1946.

If this becomes a reality, I would like to suggest the Connecticut Air & Space Center to donate / display the mockup. Our museum is actually located in Building 6. The very hangar that was built by Vought as the Experimental R& D Hangar for the XF5U program.

NO WAY! Well… now Dave Folk needs to do some work to get her back to that look.

Christopher,
If I do build a replica, I would then make a fiberglass mold to produce a few for interested museums. With my current workload, a replica of the XF5U could take 5 years to build. Once I have the original drawings, I will know what I'm up against.
It would be good to have one displayed in the hangar where they were built.

Are there many Regulus' left?
I was more than a little surprised when I saw one on the submarine adjacent to the USS Intrepid.
