It still amazes me that of the hundreds of PBJs that flew only one is left and I am lucky enough to get to work on her. The picture above that shows the radar pod on the wing tip is identical to our Mitchell. I can’t tell you how much fun it is to see these shots.

Thanks again,

Dan

I need to sort through but, this covers most of the really good plane pictures.

If anyone needs a closeup, let me know.

I'm dying!!! Gotta love that shot of the glass nose PBJ-1J's (appears to be stateside or Hawaii perhaps) sitting on the concrete pad with their radar pod wingtips and the rocket racks under the wings. Wow! Sad to see that PBJ-1D, "Fuzzy Photos, Inc." was in the scrap heap.

It's not surprising that you state that Kern was assigned to MAG-61 because it looks like he got around to quite a few of the PBJ squadrons therein. I believe the nose mounted radar pods were VMB-413 birds.

Thanks again and keep'em coming!

I'm pretty sure at this point he didn't take all of these but, more likely some are his and some are from negatives he liked at the photo lab. To be honest, i don't care, I'm just loving seeing them.

Do people have any interest in seeing the ship board shots of the squadron moving on LST 623?

I for one would be interested in anything you have!

These are great! The camp and ship shots are wonderful. Those are the ones that don't make the history books often enough.

MORE! :partyman:

I have started putting together the web site, it is located at -

http://spike.cs.umass.edu/~pbinder/frankmag61/

This morning I added pictures from a Phot Lab Party on Emirau Island, 1945. I will be updating it until i have all the pictures uploaded. If anyone can give me *any* help identifying places, structures, people, planes, etc.. I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,

Paul
