Warbird Information Exchange

Hey all,
I am finally getting around to getting pictures up of a trip a co-worker, his 16 year old son and I made down to Dayton 2 weeks ago. We had a great time and got to tour the Presidential/X-Plane annex and the restoration hangar.

I took about 200 pics but I had no mono-pod so about 50% came out blurry. Here are some of my better attempts.
Boy the place has changed since I was there last in the early 90s!

I don't know what type of aircraft this is but it just struck me as, "good lookin'" (I wasn't looking at plaques much!)

This is from the tail of the Belle. Do you all think this is a battle damage patch? You can also see the names carved into the skin. Graffiti or from the Bond Tour? I think graffiti.

And the P-82 was in the restoration hangar as well. Looks like it made it there in good shape.

I was using a Canon EOS D60 with a 26-55mm lens. I was shooting with the night setting, couldn't figure out how to shut of the flash and a lot of the pictures would make you think you are stoned but we had a great time and that is what counts.

Great photos ... I enjoyed the visit as well and glad I was able to be of a little help .. Should have mentioned to bring a mono or tripod ... However, in spite of it, your pictures came out great ...

From a personal note, I enjoyed the one of "Old Shakey" as I had a few flights on the C-124 Globemaster out of K-55, Osan AFB.

Happy to hear that the visit turned out as you had planned.

Great pictures. that f-86 cut away is there skin on the other side of it?

Chris, that is a good question. I think there is but I must defer to Misterg97 or mustangdriver to give the "for sure" answer.

Thanks for the link scfan. I need the help. I am used to the simple point and shoot cameras. This is my first SLR type rig and I have NO IDEA what I am doing .

No skin on the other side either. The museum web site, Cold War Gallery, shows the 86 from the other side skinless.

I would love to get back there again. I haven't been there since about 1980, when they only had the museum and one hangar. I am glad to see that the Valkyrie is in a hangar now.

Well I went, WOW what a museum. My wife and I opened up with them, and closed with them. I didn't read every plaque on every display, [but all the plane plaques]. But you need at least one day just to get a decent look. Thank you Air Force for such a GREAT museum!!!!
