Gotta love living in the Puget Sound area. So many opertunities to photograph airplanes. This was from the Free Fly day last weekend by the Flying Heritage Collection at Paine Field.

Really terrific pictures Nate. Thanks for posting.I do have a question about Grumpy.Any idea what's in the carburetor scoop that looks like a bungee cord or cargo strap? It looks like it's in the other engine's intake as well.Maybe,it keeps something open downstream inside the scoop?

Wow, I havn't been by this site for a while. I didn't notice that until you pointed it out. Not sure what's going on with that. I only noticed the creepy looking guy peering out from the side window.

Here's an update with pictures from American Fighter Day....hopefully the weather will hold this weekend for Luftwaffe day and I can get some shots of the Fieseler Storch and Bf 109.

The carb air intakes on "Grumpy" are a Canadian mod. They are hydraulically actuated doors with typical Bendix carburetors. The control levers for the doors are in the same spot as a typical B-25. The doors operate very much like typical B-25 cowl flaps, the pilot moves the lever out of the detent, and pushes it in the desired direction of the door. Like the cowl flaps, the pilot looks at the position of the door for approximate location desired, then monitors the carb air intake temp for the desired result. The cowl flaps are used to control the cylinder head temps in the same fashion.

Great photos. The "red" item is an indicator to help the pilot judge the position of the door.
