Must be a problem with your computer/program (I have a MAC with Safari) or if you view at work there could be a firewall to prevent the images from being viewed.

I see a group of images posted on march 24 and one on March 30, but nothing else. is the PhotoBucket problem to blame? Checked my work system, and images on other threads are OK.

I can see all of the photos today. Before now they have not been visible because we maxed out his Photobucket bandwidth limit.

If you are still not seeing them you might clear your history and / or cookies and refresh...see if they show up.

Anyone know more about that 17 in the last batch of photos? Can't help but notice the nose glass and how it appears to have the modification for the single 50 cal and the bracing still in place. That was an 8th AF mod wasn't it? was that bird a returned vet?

Post subject:  Re: Airtanker Memories - B-17 photo

Regarding the B-17 with the orange/red engine cowlings, I checked the book "Final Cut" Third Edition by Scott Thompson; specifically Appendix Two - Civil B-17s: Registration-Serial Cross Reference. This listing shows only one Flying Fortress that had a U.S. civil registration ("N" number) ending with an "A". This aircraft was B-17F-45-VE 42-6073, N7942A.

B-17F 42-6073 was delivered to the USAAF on 13 July, 1942. It remained in the U.S. during WWII, serving as a TB-17F and an RB-17F. After the war it was transferred by the Reconstruction Finance Corporation to Hancock College in Santa Maria, CA for "educational purposes". It was sold to Jack Lysdale of St. Paul, MN on 12 April 1954 and registered as N7942A. On 1 Sept. 1957, ownership of 42-6073 was transferred to Lysdale Flying Service. The aircraft was purchased by Minnesota Airmotive of Minneapolis, MN on 12 Sept. 1957.

N7942A was sold on 6 Sept. 1960 to L.B. Smith of Miami, FL. Nine days later, this B-17 was purchased by Corporation Bolivia de Fuemento to be used as a transport and was given the Bolivian registration of CP-686. It was transferred to Lloyd Aereo Boliviano on 5 April 1965. On 4 November 1968, B-17F 42-6073 was destroyed in a crash at Trinidad, Bolivia.

If the B-17 in the subject photo is indeed N7942A, then the caption shown is in error, at the very least in listing its owner as Aero Union.

I'm only going by what is written on the slide...which most of these are faded beyond belief. I'm thinking that this may have been one of the several airframes that were aquired, but never papered with AU. So many of these birds are missing in paper trail at some point. :D

Cool fact: this airframe (c/n.20494) is still with the forest service but has since been converted to a Basler BT-67 with PT-6s and a lengthened fuselage.

It's funny about seeing these photos. I can now see the above photo at work, using Firefox, but something in the federal gov system seems to be blocking the rest. At home, tho', I can see ALL photos, using Firefox on the Mac. ... And they are AMAZING! :D
