The nacelles look different on the PBY. The first one looks like it had been fitted with B-25 R-2600's, the second looks different from that....? What could they be?

They are the stock R-1830 P&W engines and cowls on the Costeau pig boat. I have some ride around time in that bird as it used to come to PAN-AIR @ Lake Front in New Orleans for work and it was an 'all hands' when it came time to leak check the bottom post check by landing in Lake Borgne, everyone armed with a red china marker and a flashlight. That was before Phillipe` stuck it nose first into a big wave off of Spain and killed everyone onboard. No one @ PAN-AIR liked to go if he was flying as he wasn't exactly the worlds best PBY driver.

The WRIGHT R-2600's were part of the 'firecat' mod.

I think the 2nd PBY pic shows a radar pod installed on the leading edge of the wing outboard of the nacelles.
The bump you see that disrupts the nacell outline. I think is what you are seeing.

Yup, MWH it is. Hint: JAL 747 in the background - they used to do pilot training there.

I have 10 or 15 slides that I took of the tankers of Globe Air at Falcon Field in Mesa, and at Memorial Field on the Gila reservation, both in AZ, back in the late '70's. If anyone in the Phoenix area, preferably the East Valley, would like to post them, I'll make them available. PM's welcome!

Fantastic, they would make a great addition to this thread! The system I use to store my scans burned out this morning, so I won't be posting for quite awhile. Thanks for jumping in here, it's very much appreciated :D

I love this thread! It took awhile, but I saved every picture to the WRG Archive and will add them to the appropriate registry entries. I'm also going to see about putting together a dedicated gallery for these images. Thanks Tom.

BTW, Tom, PM me with how the credit should read. Thanks.

I've posted some of these photos in the past but seeing that this thread was started I'll throw my 2 cents in. My father flew B-25 water bombers from 1974 to 1991 in Fort Smith, N.W.T. Canada.
