Greetings,

I am a third generation flyer, both my dad and my grandfather served in the Mexican Air Force; I have a thing (liek most of you) for vintage aircraft, I particularly love Stearmans, Texans and Trojans; A while ago, I have found on this site a few a/c that are still flying that once upon a time were flown by my grandfather, I though that was very neat... Since then I have become interested in helping tie the present with the past...

My request is.. If anyone has information, pictures or owns an ex-MAF a/c please let me know. I have a lot of material that could serve in finding out more about the origins of these aircraft.

Cheers and hopefully some of you could help me!

S.

First, I would go to Joe Baugher's site at:

http://www.joebaugher.com/

..and go to these menu items:

USAAS/USAAC/USAAF/USAF Aircraft Serials

US Navy/US Marine Corps Aircraft Bureau Numbers

US Coast Guard Aircraft Bureau Numbers

Do a "Find on This Page" search using the term "Mexican" (you'll also get hits on Mexicana Airlines) for each year serials. Below are just a few examples:

A-24B (SBD)
42-54532 CAF Dixie Wing, Atlanta, GA
http://www.warbirdregistry.org/sbdregis ... 54532.html

49-1618 (c/n 159-130) to Mexican AF as FAM-910. To US civil registry as N7054L. Registration cancelled by FAA Jan 31, 2006 as written off by Hurricane Wilma. Registration restored May 17, 2007.
49-1670 (c/n 159-182) to Mexican AF as FAM-903. To US civil registry as N8156Y
49-1683 (c/n 159-195) to Mexican AF as FAM 975, then to US civil registry as N7062K
50-230 (c/n 171-36) to Mexican AF. Purchased by Cactus Air Force in 1985 and is in storage pending restoration.
51-3562 (C/n 174-100) To Mexican AF as FAM 929. Sold late 1980s to Jack Rhoades of Columbus, IN; was to have been N5206V but not taken up. Eventually registered N129DR March 1991. Sold to Jeffrey W. Brooks of Fairbanks, AK 13/8/91
51-3707 (c/n 174-245) to Mexican AF as FAM 934, then to US civil registry as N8156G
51-7582 (c/n 174-436) to Mexican AF as FAM 928. To US civil registry as N8156L
51-7588 (c/n 174-441) to Mexican AF as FAM 946, then to US civil registry as N129DR.
51-7589 (c/n 174-442) to Mexican AF as FAM 944, then to US civil registry as N129DR
51-7681 to Mexican AF as FAM 927. Later on civil registry as N1628T
51-7708 (c/n 174-561) delivered Mar 25, 1953 to 2277th Reserve Flying Training Center, Brooks AFB, TX. To 2589th Air Reserve Flying Center, Dobbins AFB, GA Sep 2955. To 169th FS (ANG), Peoria, IL Oct 1956. To MASDC Oct 1957. To MAP Sep 1958. To Mexican AF as FAM 954. In 2009 was under restoration in Portland, OR.

For those aircraft with a listed "N" number for their US registrations, you can go to the following site to check on current status:

http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry ... quiry.aspx

Hope this helps...

Bob
