I have seen a photograph of a T-28C with a "2B" tail code on it.

I have looked quite a bit on the internet, and can not seem to find any information regarding 2B tail codes.

Can anyone here shed some light on what squadron, and where it was based? Thanks.

Probably based out of NAS Kingsville, TX. Unit was VT-27.

Thanks Bob,

I will look into it. I have only seen D, G, and 3G tail codes for VT-27 aircraft.

For what it's worth, I checked the T-28 Trojan Foundation site and there was no mention of the 2B tail code. They do have a page saluting the Navy years here with this entry:

There were four prominent Navy training squadrons identified by their respective tail codes: VT-2 (2G), VT-3 (2W) and VT-6 (2D) which operated from NAS Whiting Field and VT-5 (2S) which operated from NAS Saufley Field.

Maybe somebody else can post more.

Anthony

Thanks Anthony,

I did some more digging last night on the internet, and I found a document titled "OPNAV 05400" for fiscal year 1958, dated Dec 9, 1957. I has a lot of cool information on it, including a Current Assignment of Indentification Letters to Naval Aircraft Units.

Found under NABATRACOM it listed:

2B NAAS Barin
2C NAAS Corry
2E ALF Ellyson
2F NAS Pensacola
2G NAS Glynco
2S NAAS Saufley
2W NAAS Whiting

So it looks like 2B is Barin field, circa 1957-1958. I have also seen a BA coded T-28C for Barin Field.

I will keep looking.

You're welcome - and it looks like you found some good information there!

Please keep us updated!
