A place where restoration project-type threads can go to avoid falling off the main page in the WIX hangar. Feel free to start threads on Restoration projects and/or warbird maintenance here. Named in memoriam for Gary Austin, a good friend of the site and known as RetroAviation here. He will be sorely missed.

AA 191, UAL 232, ASA 267 keep those numbers in your head when you do a sign-off. If you aren't aware of those numbers and what they mean, do some recreational reading this weekend-

One of the big problems I've noticed over my 30+ years with warbirds is when the maintainer is also the pilot. Often times that person will rush a maintenance job, taking short cuts and not doing something totally right, because he wants to go fly.

There have also been times when mechanics have caved in to pressure from the owner and deferred something until the next down time.

Thankfully it seems more maintainers are holding their ground now, and keeping birds on the ground until they are really ready to fly.
