I am thinking of building a toolbox from a 1940s aircraft maintenance textbook. It seems a pretty neat project that involves metal forming, riveting etc. The book references the old types of aluminum like 17S. Where can I find a reference for crossing the old styles to the current types or to whatever is closest? |

17S is 2017 alloy. Much more common now is 2024T3 (was 24ST). Any aircraft supply house should have 2024T3 in stock. |

Any metal supply should have 6061T6 if you don't actually need certified aircraft grade aluminum and it should work great for your application. |

Thanks for the quick response. I feel like a dolt that I didn't think of Aircraft Spruce! |
