Those little clip-on ammo cans generally seem to have been used on earlier B-17s, later models using larger fixed hoppers with flexible feed chutes.

Hello again from Duxford!
We had decided to finish the Duxford B-17 thread because the project was more or less complete, but it is good to see the continued interest. The most obvious missing structure is the chin turret, a difficult item to replicate. The old turret had been made before the recent fitting of the gun mounts, and it may be a while before there's time to complete it.
In the meantime, the replica guns were fitted last week:

All you guys are to be commended for an outstanding job. Every group who is doing a static restoration should be directed toward this thread. Just because it won't fly does not mean that great care should not be taken to restore it as though it just came off the assembly line.

this may have been addressed, so forgive me if its a redundant question, but are all the control cables, electronics, hydraulic lines, etc. connected as if it were a flyable restoration?

From the latest info it would appear the decision to have no specific markings of the IWM B-17 has been reversed, for the moment at least.
She is now apparently wearing the fin markings of 42-38133 AW-O "Reluctant Dragon" of the 96th Bomb Group, lost on the 30th November 1944.

I just joined after reading through this amazing thread...congrats to you all for an awesome restoration. The photos of the restoration were wonderful and very much appreciated as I never would have seen a B-17 from any of those views! Thank you for some invaluable reference material for a future B-17G model build in 1/48 scale.

I'm new on this forum.
I am currently working on a book project on the story of the 14 french flying fortresses (B-17) that the National Geographic Institute (french IGN) used in the 50s to the 80s.

B-17 ex Mary Alice (F-BDRS, 44 -83735) was one those 14 B-17 (IGN) coming from FRANCE.

I see all thoses pages about its last restoration.

Does anyone know the reasons for choosing this new painting and serial number?
