The nose is fiberglass. It protects the APG30 radar antenna.
Below is a forward view of the antenna assembly PN 187-74027.

The battery access panel. This panel fits on the right side of the fuselage aft of the cockpit.

This is where the directional gyro control is located in the right hand compartment aft of the cockpit.

Andrew, thanks.

The instrument panels are filling in. There are still a few period instruments to locate to make them complete. When these are done work starts on the panels for the F-86H cockpits. The F-86H panels are more of a challenge as all there is to work with are the support frames, photos and the parts catalog.

Would the original finish on the F-100F panel have been unpainted or is it painted gray? It looks original.

I noticed this eBay seller seems to have a few Sabre items listed on occasion..and the prices are quite reasonable.

Some panel work this week on the inverter access panel.

Still more to do after the preservation material is removed completely. Most of the preservation material is removed by using hot water, not bad after being applied in the late 1960s early 1970s when the jet was retired and put in storage. Damage is from handling in storage and someone using a pry bar to open the panel. The camlock fasteners must have been too much effort to turn the 1/2 turn required to release.

Image

Removed the Airloc fasteners. The remaining preservation material was removed with more hot water and some scrubbing. Fasteners are ready to reinstall and panel will go back on the fuselage.

Panel with Airloc fasteners installed.

Behind the engine start system access panel on the lower right side of the fuselage on the F-86H-10 is the engine start system still intact.

Image

The two high pressure spherical air bottles are forward of the engine start system in separate compartments on both sides of the fuselage.

The cables that support the access door are broken, but all components in the system are in place.

A view of the plumbing in the upper portion of the compartment.

The open access door.
