If anyone knows what this piece is and can get a couple photos of one I would appreciate it. It seems to be the housing for a spring loaded catch for the instrument hood, but I couldn't say exactly where that would be. I assume on the top of the instrument panel, or maybe under it?

55-73011; Housing, Instrument Flying Hood Release Latch

The part number refers to the NA-55 (aka BC-1A) but was also used in other members of the AT-6/SNJ/Harvard family in the rear cockpit for the blind flying hood.
I didn't thing there would be a blind flying hood fitted in a single-seat Mustang

Hope this helps.

I think it might be a situation where the part was designed for the flying hood of a T-6 but was probably used for other things.

Can anyone find a drawing for the B-8583 charging handle for an M2 Browning? I am in need if it in order to make a derived part for this bird. Any ideas or clues on where to find it? Does anyone have one they can take detailed measurements off of?

The part on your blog for the gun sight is backwards. The ribs should be to the inside.
You should also consider which C model you are modeling because the B/C models changed a lot during production

I am not sure which part you mean. I think you mean the aux gun ring, but I am still not certain what you mean since it only has one rib and it is centered on the mounting lug.

And the C model we are working on is a specific C model, but I don't know if I am at liberty to share the serial number.

91-61191 is incorrectly drawn. The reason I asked about the serial is that NAA made a lot of changes to the B/C modles over the production run. For example the 91-61191 was only used with first hundred or so aircraft before the switch to a different gunsight. This caused several changes including the shroud and the gun sight mounting. Also depending on the theater of operations the cockpit equipment also varies. If you request information on a particle feature or part it helps to know which block and serial so as to give the correct information on the particuler part. FYI a number of Mustangs were fitted with blind flying hoods. I dont know if the hoods were used operationaly but they were factory fitted.

I think you might be right, but I'll have to look closer tonight to see what it will take to fix it. Thanks for the help. :drink3: PM me your name so I can credit the catch on the blog.

I'll check on the serial no. tonight and see where it was in the build.

I could use some help interpreting part of the wing ordinate drawing for the Mustang.

Image

I understand the first line, that's the length of the wing chord at this station basically. .288 is how far below the wing reference line the trailing edge is.

I need help understanding the rest. I guess I understand that the leading edge radius is 1.080" but what is 0.133?
I also need help understanding the numbers for front and rear spar. Would the first number be distance from leading edge? Does that make the second number height above reference line and the third number height below the reference line?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Rob,

As I understand the numbers 22.227 is the distance from the leading edge to the front spar, and 5.780 would be the upper ordinate at 22.227 were 4.111 would be the lower ordinate at 22.227. The numbers for the rear spar work the same 50.983, distance from leading edge and at 50.983 the upper ordinate is 3.733 and the lower 2.361. As for the .133 I believe that is the distance above the WRL to start the radius. If the .133 was in the lower column it would start below the WRL.

Take care,

Eric

That makes sense, thanks Eric. I kinda figured on the spars but wasn't sure. It was mostly the radius thing that confused me.

Has anyone seen a copy of drawing 73-00012, it's the ordinates and loftts for the empennage? I am in need of one. Might be able to get the cost comped if necessary.
