Post subject: | Question for all you spark chasers out there |
C47A: Left Engine: generator operates normally ie: at startup and low RPM the voltmeter shows voltage that follows the throttle. At about 1700 RPM reverse current relay closes and brings the generator online to the main bus. Normal operation during flight, at landing the RPM drops and the reverse current relay opens at 8 volts or so taking the generator off the bus. All is good.. Right Engine: generator shows no voltage at startup and warm up. Shows no voltage at run up. On takeoff at 2550 RPM voltmeter comes alive at full rated voltage (28.5 or so) reverse current relay closes and the generator is online. Generator operates normally throughout the rest of the flight. On landing the voltmeter shows readings that follow the throttle. At low RPM the reverse current relay opens and the generator goes offline. Shut down the engine and restart and the process starts all over again. Any suggestions about what to check on the Right System? Thanks, Craig Wadsworth National Warplane Museum |

What all have you done to check the right system ? the contacts under the carbon piles are sensitive to corrosion, remove the pile and polish the pins and fingers. Have you checked the brushes on the Rt Generator ? brush spring tension ? terminal lugs for corrosion ? |
