A place where restoration project-type threads can go to avoid falling off the main page in the WIX hangar. Feel free to start threads on Restoration projects and/or warbird maintenance here. Named in memoriam for Gary Austin, a good friend of the site and known as RetroAviation here. He will be sorely missed.

There are 4 possible modern alloys. Do you have a print you can share that would give us some indication as to what the part is, and whether it’s structural or not? That’s going to help determine what alloy would be an approprate substitution.

Would be quite interesting to see what he’s working on. I’m familiar with 2017 being used for rivets. Building something out of sheet or bar would be quite different. While it’s a weldable alloy, one can only do so via a spot welder.
