Location: Farmington, MN.
Lt. Col. Dorothy Bower US Air Force, Retired.
"Dottie" used her Maiden name "McHugh" through out her Air Force career as she didn't marry until she retired in 1972. She was born in La Crosse WI. and grew up in Farmington Mn. After High School she received a RN degree at St Francis School of Nursing at LaCrosse WI. After working as a nurse at St. Mary's Hospital in Minneapolis she interveiwed for a stewardess at American Airlines and was hired. At that time one of the requirments was a nursing degree.
In 1952 she was recruited by the Air Force and joined the Air Force Nursing Corps. During her career she flew many patients in many types of airplanes. Casualties from Korea through Veit Nam and was stationed in North Africa, Europe, Japan and many other locations. She gave me a model of a C9-A on one of my visits to her home. She spoke of many trips from Japan to the States in C141s. She retired in 1972 and married Colonel Woodfin Sullivan. On one of our story sessons she said that she had almost as much time logged as he did, and she could only log flight time when she was with a patient(s)! And he flew P51s and P47s in Europe during WWII and many post war jets. Including F100s for 14 years with some time as a squaderon commander in Veit Nam. So her time on return flights didn't count.
After Col. Sullivan died she moved from Florida to San Antonio and later married Col. Jim Bower, a West Point grad.
Dottie was active in the Kiwi Club.
Dorothy was my mothers oldest sister. She had a very busy life. She was descibed as Classy, Elegant and Compassionate.
I also want to thank her good friend and companion Gen Tomas Whitehouse for the care he provided the last few years.

God Speed Aunt Dorothy
