Col. "Sandy Sansing"

Tue Jul 01, 2014 5:10 pm

I just learned a man who was very important in my life passed away yesterday. Col. Virgil E. "Sandy" Sansing, USAF (Ret), and CAF, slipped the surly bonds of earth for the final time. Sandy was my CFI, getting me both my private and multi tickets. Sandy started flying shortly after Pearl Harbor (he was already enlisted at the time). He flew P-47's and P-51C's (shot down behind the lines in France in one, saved by the underground, and finally secreted out and was able to rejoin his squadron in England). Sandy flew many aircraft in active duty, and even more when employed by John Stokes. His final flight was the the CAF P-39 as PIC. I was one of his final BFR sign-offs. It was an honor, Sandy!
