Hi All,

I've pulled this list of surviving Zeros in Japan from Wikipedia and annotated it myself. I'd like to see as many surviving Japanese WWII aircraft as I can while in Japan and don't want to miss any close by out of ignorance.

- Have seen -

• 4168/4240/4241 – On display at the Yūshūkan , Tokyo.
• 1493 – On display at the Kawaguchiko Motor Museum.
• 91518 – On display at the Kawaguchiko Motor Museum.
• 92717 – On display at the Kawaguchiko Motor Museum.
• 31870 – A two-seater on display at the National Museum of Nature and Science.
• Replica – Owned by businessman Masahide Ishizuka in Kanoya, Kagoshima. Airworthy, with a Pratt & Whitney R-1830 engine. - Wasn’t this Zero back in the US recently? I saw it at POF 2019 airshow on the ramp. - EDIT OOPS 2018 POF Show!!

• 4685 – On display at Hamamatsu Air Base in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka.
• 62343 – On display at the Chiran Peace Museum for Kamikaze Pilots in Chiran, Kagoshima.

- Will NOT see this trip -
• 82729 – On display at the Yamato Museum in Kure, Hiroshima.
• Replica – On display at MCAS Iwakuni in Iwakuni, Yamaguchi.
• 4708 – On display at the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Museum in Komaki, Aichi - MUSEUM CLOSED for the foreseeable future.
Tachiarai Peace Memorial Museum in Fukuoka on Kyushu - has a Zero on display - anyone know it's providence?

There is a Zero of some sort on display at the YOKAREN Peace Memorial in Tsuchira, Ibaraki but I cannot find any info as to its providence. Does anyone here know if it’s real or a fibreglass replica? I’m hoping to trek out to see it, but the Typhoon shut down this week’s plan!!

Lastly, I have a trip planned for my final day off to fly to Kagoshima on Kyushu to see the Kanoya Air Base Museum (Emily) and the Chiran Peace Museum (Ex POF Frank, Zero remains and Oscar.) Wish me luck!

EDIT - My plans to visit

Airpark JASDF Hamamatsu Air Base Museum and Gifu-Kakamigahara Air and Space Museum
were dashed by weather and lack of time so I never did make it to those museums.

I thought this one was sold recently. Is it now back in Japan yet again?

That's what I'm wondering about. I saw what I think is it - N553TT - on the ramp at the 2018 POF airshow.

It's still on the FAA registry owned by ZERO ENTERPRISE INC TRUSTEE out of Delaware.

Anyone?

Boschung Global still has the aircraft listed for sale (through their site and on Controller), with the aircraft’s current location stated as California.

I'm hoping to get out there from Tokyo to take a look.

I heard about another Zero on display at the Usashi Heiwa Museum:

This one doesn't seem to appear on the Preserved Axis Site listings.

I found out that the Zero on display at the Yokaren Peace Museum in Tuchuira is a replica. Nicely done!
I also discovered that getting around Japan and visiting museums is a lot tougher when one is working 6 days a week!

My planned trips to Nagoya and Kyushu were dashed by Typhoons and National Holidays and not enough time. Dang!

One of the replicas built for the 1984 movie Zerosen moyu was saved for a museum, so maybe that's the one you saw.

Thanks for posting all this good stuff - wish you could have made it to Hofu (aka Bofu) AB where my dad was based, but a great little travelogue nonetheless!
