OK. I'll get the discussion rolling.

Is the lighter color on the fuselage just really badly faded OD? The stenciling in yellow seems to be original application (note even the small stencil in the rectangular panel just above the wing root fairing).

Probably not. As an M, it would have been delivered in NMF. I don't think I've ever seen an overall OD/NG bubbletop T-Bolt in the 8AF, though there were a few in the 9AF and the French had a few.

I believe the conventional wisdom is that the lighter shade is an RAF Gray of some sort. I've never seen a pic where the darker color looked that blue/black. In most of the 62FS pics the darker color looks like a dark green.

I built a model of that airplane back in high school, around 1971 or '72--one of my first airbrush jobs. Only reference I had was the old Kookaburra book. I cut stencils for the yellow code letters and hand-painted the "Teddy." I still have it. Couple years ago I touched it up a little. Main repair needed was to replace all the cracked, yellowed star-and-bar decals.

Some (all?) of the 61st fighter squadron P-47M's were painted either black or a very, very dark blue. The darker color in these pics looks very similar to that color to my eye. Would make sense, obviously they had access to the color.

Just my two cents but I looked at a bunch of color pics of 62FS M model Jugs and I don't see any that look green to my eye.
