The Lockheed P-3 in its many variants can hardly be considered a "second-hand acquisition". There were more than 750 of the P-3 variants built, as compared to only 170 of the L-188 Electras.

Walt you are exactly right, the P-3 Orion is not a "second hand acquisition" by any means; while developed from the L-188 air frame, it is a distinctly different aircraft and all of them other than the original prototype were new build aircraft.

But the former airliner/cargo L-188 Electra air frames used by a number of non-U.S. military services are definitely what you could call "second hand acquisitions."

I’m addressing this inquiry to any Airspray folks out there. I realize Airspray is based out of Red Deer but I’m curious where Mr. Hamilton stores his fourteen Electras during the off season months. Is there any room left at Red Deer with all Buffalo Joe’s relics littering the tarmac.

Well firstly Mr Hamilton has passed on. RIP.

The tarmac in Red Deer is littered with Electras..that is the maintenance base for winter fixings...

Thanks for the video of FAH-555. I just love the sound of an Allison turboprop (T56) My father was a Flight Engineer on C-130E Hercules and I was indoctrinated at a young age to this sound. I got to fly around Northern & Western Canada from the time I was 5 years old until I was 9 years old in the old Hercs. Talk about having your psyche engrained with this sound. Anytime I hear an aircraft fly over I can instantly tell if the aircraft has a T56. Airspray, keep up the good work.

L-188 Folks/Tanker 336:

Good day!

Just a few questions about the short Ck flight.

The pilot shot down engines #1 & #3 after the landing and then proceded to taxi this way. Do the sequence of engine shutdown indicates problems on board?? Do the short flight indicates more work still needs to be done?? How long does a FCF on a L-188 usually last??

Tks in advance

WallyB:

There was no smoke or fire during the landing for the short 12 min flight. There were some minor "snags" with engine temp on #3 & cockpit instruments.

We would like to know what is the normal sequence of events when shutting down engines to save gas outboards/inboards??

The A& P Air Spray folks have been working hard on this bird for almost 2 months. We'll keep you posted.

Tks

He's talking exhaust smoke. The T-56 is notoriously smokey. :)

The video shows exactly what it took place during landing. You are correct, they must be burning some clean fuel.

They have been working hard on this bird for the last 72 hrs. We still do not know when the next test flight will be. We'll keep you posted. Tks

It is very sad when someone speculates about facts he does not really know about, or understand. I have taken lots of time to read most of the threads of my interest in the WIX Forum and found no speculation from any of its members. However, most of Mr. Planas (zorro 7) participation in WIX is plagued with speculation; he should not rely on his "diplomatic sources", distant a couple of thousand miles from his home in Nebraska, or from his fragile imagination.
My two cents ...
