For those that are interested I have posted a page of photos from my Smithsonian visit last week.

Nice photos Eric. I'll have to make a trip out there some day, probably after they've had a chance to put more on display, like the B-17D.

Dumb Question: Why do aircraft in static museums always have the wheels slightly raised of the floor? Is this to prevent the tires looking flat when the air leakes out?

Which Super Chipmunk does the Smithsonian have? It looks like Art Scholl's but I thought I saw his on display at the EAA Museum. Did he have two or maybe someone else had a similarly painted ship.

Both the Super Chipmunk at Udvar-Hazy and the one at the EAA museum were Art Scholl's.

Yes, He had a fixed gear and retractable gear Chipmunk. Got pics of both at past CNE airshows in Toronto.

I was dissapointed there were not more aircraft on display. Museums just don't do it for me as I love to see aircraft on a ramp ready to fire up. However to see airframes that made history always leave me in awe.

Had a great time south of the border. Lots of beer airplanes and photos. It was our second visit to Williamsburg, what a great place to photograph. Here are some photos.
