Hello,

I am curious to know the status of the current P-39 rebuilds. I am aware of two examples being done in Australia. Are there any others around the world being restored (to flying condition)?

Thanks,

Ron

Hello Ron

I think that you would have to say that the projects at Wanagaratta in Australia will result in 3-4 maybe even more by the time they get finished - there is a lot of stuff there and who knows what will be the end game but whatever happens it is exciting .

Regards
John P

I know "The Fighter Factory", down here in VA, is working on one but as I recall it too is being restored in Austrailia and might be one of the ones your thinking of. Also I thought I just read that there is one up in PA being worked on.

Yep, there's a P-39 project (mentioned very recently on another thread) at Beaver County Airport in Pennsylvania (Air Heritage), along with an A-20. These two are Tallichet collection aircraft and apparently both projects are currently dormant.

BTW, two static P-39s are in the Western NY area--one at the Naval and Servicemen's Park museum on the riverfront, and one at the Niagara Aerospace Museum. Both are ex-PNG recoveries.

I thought that the Niagara Aerospace Museum was on loan from the Smithsonian. It is a P-39Q called Galloping Gerty (sp?) I have some pictures at home.

When I was at Kermit's Fantasy of Flight in March I was told his P-39 was going to Australia soon for rsetoration. as fas as Tallichet's P-39's, wasnt there something here on the WIX within the past 2/3 weeks saying his P-39's are now at the Pima Air & Space Museum along with one of his B-26's from upstate NY?

Hi Ron,

Also, don't know if you caught the earlier post concerning Jack Taft's P-400 rebuild in Michigan. The answers to my original query seemed to indicate a static rebuild, but perhaps Mr. Taft has more ambitious ideas!

Give my best to Kaori!

Dan

ps. Isn't it about time for another "Gasthaus" run? :tonqe:

Hello,

Thanks for the info guys. Hopefully, we will see more P-39s in the air again.

Ron
