:?: I recently came into possession of what I believe to be an original photo
from the WWII era of a B17 E(pretty sure). I am trying to find info on this plane, ie, name did it survive, if it didn't, what happened to it. Just some general history to add to the enjoyment of the picture. I can't scan the picture as it is to large, but here are some details:

The photo is taken at high altitude over a large mountain range.

Tail id # is 19070.

Side fues # is Z-400.

No waist gunner positions and no nose turret either.

It has no other distuinguishing markers and the nose art is not clear enough to identify.

Does any one know of how to ID this plane, or can you point me to a website that can help?

Thanks guys.

A guy by the name of Jeremy Kuris has a search engine for Joe Baughers serial number pages. You can find it at...

http://users.rcn.com/jeremy.k/serialSearch.html

If you enter "9070" for the serial and "B-17" for description. Then click on Search. You will get...

TAIL: 41-9011 ... 41-9245
Boeing B-17E Fortress
c/n 2483/2717

There is no individual entry for 41-9070, but this is at least a starting point.

Can anyone help with the history of 41-9070?

Mike

Ryan,

One can also find it in Roger A. Freeman's (with David Osborne) 'The B-17 Flying Fortress Story' !

Take care,

Paul

You guys are amazing! Thanks so much for the help on solving my little mystery. It definetly adds to the enjoyment of my newly acquired photo,
which by the way, is now framed and hanging on the wall behind my desk at work.

Thanks again!

Jeff
