Nebraskan F-84s...

Wed Jun 06, 2007 4:03 pm

Can anyone confirm or deny the existence of F-84s in Creighton and Neligh, Nebraska? I'm going to be in the area soon and will try to get pictures if either are still there....
TIA

Bryan,

I grew up in northeast Nebraska and can confirm that there was a completely unmolested F-84F (52-6642) at Creighton in the city park thirty years ago. When I took photos of the airplane the cockpit was totally intact but within a few years had been vandalized. I believe it's still there but am not sure. There is a nice RF-84F at David City Municipal Airport but I'm not sure about Neligh, although 51-01929 (RF-84F) is shown as being there. Valley is also supposed to have an RF, s/n 52-07251 but I can't confirm that one either. I do know Sioux City ANG Base has a very nice RF on display. I'll try to find my awful photos of the Creighton bird and post them on this thread when I find them.

Both the Creighton and Neligh machines were still there in August 2003.

The Creighton one is F-84F 52-6642, although it is unmarked. It sits next to Rte 59.

RF-84F 51-1929 is plinth-mounted along Rte 275 in Neligh.

Mike I did use the locator but the following is from your site concerning the Creighton F-84
NEED HELP... The Google satellite images in this area are poor. The location was obtained from a aerial photo circa 1997. Can you confirm the F-84 is still there.

And this is from your site concerning the Neligh F-84
NEED HELP... The Google satellite images in this area are poor. The location was obtained from a aerial photo circa 1995. Can you confirm the F-84 is still there.

Dohhhhh!!!!!

Mike (the humbled)

P.S. I will be uploading some changes tonight with the info gleaned from this thread.

Thanks Mike.
I use the Locator for every roadtrip I make.
Thanks again, and I'll post photos when I get back...

I'm back.
I did not make it down to Neligh, but I'll be back down there in the next couple of years.
The Creighton displayed example is in decent shape and they do what they can to keep it from becoming town's biggest birdhouse...

How is the location in the Locator compared to the actual?

The photo resolution for that area is poor so it is hard to say for sure.
Looking at the map I would say it is right off Rt 59 in front of Bruce Park.

Thanks Bryan. I'll try and do an upload in the next day or two.

Time to re-open this thread with some Cornhusker F-84 photos. We were headed south this morning and stopped off for a few photos of RF-84F-10-RE 51-1935 at the York Municipal Airport. The old girl is really in pretty good condition and the only visible thing missing is the aft cockpit transparency on the left side.

If you look closely you can still see the "Nebr." on the top of the vertical from her service with the Nebraska ANG. A sister ship is at David City, but in a bit more run-down condition.

Could you upload a photo or two for the Locator? To do so find the Location in the locator...
http://www.aerialvisuals.ca/Locator.php
...then open the Location dossier. If there is a link to the airframe dossier then click on it to find the upload link. If the airframe dossier has not been created yet, click the airframe creation wizard button to start one (an easy process).

A shot or two for the database would be greatly appreciated myself and I am sure others. Once uploaded, your photo will appear in the gallery...

Mike

P.S. The instructions above apply to any airframe at any location in the Locator. If there is a plane in a park, or at a museum, please consider uploading a copy of the photo to help build the database.
