I am in the process of building a full scale P-35A replica fighter. This a long term project and something being done slowly. I am building a mock up fuselage first, as a proof of concept. I have attached a pic out of AirTrails magazine (Jan 1938) of a original Seversky mock up. The "bulkheads" are being CAD mastered and then cut out of MDF from a CNC gantry router. I am posting a shot of the new firewall and a original for comparison. Over the years, many WIX members have been very helpful to me in gathering information for this project. Also the Planes of Fame at Chino have been so kind as to allow me to take literally hundreds of photos inside and out of their AT-12 for reference. My small company, Vintage Component Specialties is undertaking the work. I will post more pics as the work progresses.

Here is a shot of the new P-35A instrument panel I had CAD mastered and cut on a CNC. The instuments are in for a "fit" check before painting. I will be making the new build P-35A panels available for sale to collectors in a short time through Vintage Component Specialties.

Will it be out of aluminum? A two seater I presume?

Ambitious, but admirable. Good luck with it.

One of my favorites, love watching Test Pilot with Clark Gable. I bet I could even pick up Myrna Loy if I pulled up in P-35 ! :D

Here are some shots of the modified P-51/T-6 Schick-Johnson seats I will be building for the P-35A project and will be making available through Vintage Component Specialties at a later date. As I go through the production process I will post more pics of the progress.

What a sweet airplane. Anyone know how many of them are left. I can thing of the one in the Planes of Fame, and the one in the NMUSAF.

A friend of mine Dave Kinney, who worked for Art Teeters on NX1204 (I refuse to call this one Ina the Macon Belle), is also interested in such a project. I will pass this along to him. Looks like a great start and will be pleased to follow your progress. All the best and feel free to give us shout if you need anything. We'd love to help if we can.

None of those two airplanes are a P-35A! P-35A is the designation of the export version for Sweden. PoF has an AT-12 Guardsman wich is a bigger two seat version. (Coincidently also intended for the Swedish Air Force) The airplane in Dayton is a domestic P-35 with a smaller engine and shorter fuselage.

The only two existing P-35A in the world today are one on permanent static display at the Swedish Air Force Museum, and one in Kermit Weeks work shop in Polk City, Florida. The latter, also a former Swedish fighter, is in progress of being restored to flying status!

Thought you might like to see a photo of the genuine one at the Swedish Air Force Museum which I took in Summer 2006.
