If B-26's were as abundant as B-25's today, I'd suggest this scheme for one of them.
And then you would have one each of the following Mustangs flying escort.

Wishful thinking ....

Below Commanders of the four 15th AF P-51 groups flying over the Italian Alps. L-R 31st FG, 325th FG, 332nd FG, 52nd FG

Notice no guns or top turret on the 26, could she be an assembly ship?

I don't recall ever hearing of a fighter group needing an assembly ship. Usually, planes like the B-26 were the station hack and were used to pick up high priority items. Parts, people, components, beer, steak, booze.

Is the photo of the B-26 over seas or perhaps in the Southern U.S.? Mark does say "Wishful thinking". Perhaps a U.S. based B-26 with an unrelated checkered tail on it?

The first color profile in Squadron's "Checkertails-the 325th Fighter Group in the Second World War" has it illustrated with the note that it was named "Passion Flower III". The only hiccup being that the nacelle markings and the squadron logo under the cockpit don't match each other. Different plane and/or different time period?
